Overview

Cleaning can help extend the life of your hearing aid. Routine cleaning of your hearing aid can also maintain the sound quality and keep you understanding those around you. Here are some tips to help with keeping your hearing aid clean.

Replace Batteries

Hearing aid battery life varies and is a common culprit for dead aids. (Remember to let your batteries breath for 1 to 2 minutes before use!)

Change Wax Guards

Wax guards are the tiny white circles on the end of your aid or ear mold. When the wax guard is clogged, it may seem like your hearing aids are dead or are working on and off.

Change Domes

If you use domes, replace them every 6 months or so to help avoid wax build up!

Clean Vents

Vents are located on your hearing aid mold, usually underneath the wax guard. Making sure these are free of wax can help improve sound quality!

Brush Microphones

Brush your microphones, your microphones can often get clogged with skin or hair products. Most hearing aids have two microphone ports, so make sure you brush both!

Dry Devices

Move your aids to a cool, dry place for an hour or so. Sometimes, hearing aids get a little too moist and need a chance to dry out. They are tiny computers, after all! If excessive moisture is a concern, talk to your audiologist about purchasing a dry kit.
