Hearing Aid FAQ

  • How do I get started with hearing aids?

    • Look no further! Call us or fill out our contact form to schedule a hearing aid evaluation. During a hearing aid evaluation, you will have the opportunity to listen to three different hearing aid brands in a simulated noisy environment. The performance of each hearing aid and the overall comfortability of the patient in each set of hearing aids is considered, and your audiologist will discuss your options for next steps. After discussions with your audiologist, you likely will have a custom ear mold impression taken so the manufacturer can make the piece that holds your speaker. About two weeks after your hearing aid evaluation, your hearing aid will be ready for your fitting.

  • Are hearing aids covered by insurance?

    • Unfortunately, there is no universal answer for this question. Some insurance companies have a hearing aid benefit, some do not. We will check your benefits prior to your hearing aid evaluation, but we encourage you to also verify your benefits. For more information on WA state hearing aid benefits, please visit our “Hearing Aid Information” page.

  • Do you prescribe over-the-counter hearing aids?

    • Our office only provides prescriptive hearings that are custom fit to each patients’ specific needs.

  • How long will my hearing aid fitting take?

    • Hearing aid fittings are scheduled for an hour.

  • What is included with my hearing aid purchase?

    • Your care is bundled into the price of the hearing aids, anytime you need to see us during your three year warranty period, there will be no out of pocket charge for the visit (accessories, molds, and wax guards may cost extra). There is no limit on the amount of follow up appointments you can make.

  • What will happen during my fitting?

    • At your fitting we will go over how to insert the hearing aid, pair your hearing aid to your smart phone if it’s compatible, complete real ear measures and verify the function of your hearing aid, as well as customize your prescriptive fit with your input.

  • What if I don’t like the sound of my hearing aids?

    • We recommend seeing our patients two weeks after the initial fitting to give the brain time to adjust to the hearing aids. At our two week follow up we adjust and fine tune the prescription. The two weeks are part of a thirty day trial period where you can return your hearing aids if you do not like them.

  • Do I have to pay for my hearing aids after my fitting?

    • Typically, yes, you will be required to pay a deposit for your hearing aids. The deposit is typically half the price of the total price of your hearing aids. However, payment plans are available upon request. Questions about billing can be sent to our billing manager.

A note on fitting over-the-counter prescriptive hearing aids:

New guidelines from the Food and Drug administration are currently being drafted for the sale of over the counter hearing aids.

  • Over-the-counter hearing aids are meant to be fitted without the help of an audiologist.

  • We encourage our patients to consult with an audiologist prior to buying over-the-counter hearing aids.

  • Any programming needed for over-the-counter hearing aids can be completed for an out of pocket cost to the patient.
